Romeoville, Ill. – After falling behind Lewis early in the second half, the Maryville women's soccer team saw a late game rally fall short as the Flyers edged the Saints 2-1 Sunday afternoon at Lewis Stadium in Romeoville, Ill.
What Happened – The Flyers opened the scoring with a goal in the 21
st minute to grab an early 1-0 advantage. Lewis limited the Saints to only two shots in the first half. The Flyers extended the lead in the 63
rdminute with a goal to make the score 2-0.
Lexi Gentry put the Saints on the scoreboard in the 83
rd minute as she collected a pass from
Alex Johnson a scored from six yards out to cut the deficit to 2-1. Maryville had an opportunity to tie the match in the 89
thminute as Gentry fired a shot that just went over the top of the goal.
Inside the Numbers – The Saints outshot Lewis 9-6 in the match with three shots being on goal. Gentry paced the Maryville attack with four shots while
Molly Krispin added two attempts.
