Alex Johnson scored the only goal of the match in the first minute of action to give the Maryville women's soccer team a 1-0 victory over Illinois Springfield Friday afternoon at Maryville Field.
What Happened – The Saints wasted no time to take the lead as Johnson took a pass from
Lexi Gentry and scored from 6-yards out to put Maryville on top 1-0 just 38 seconds into the contest. The Maryville defense was solid throughout the first 45 minutes of play as the Saints allowed only two shots in the half.
The Saints defense continued its strong play in the second half as
Katie Nash kept the Prairie Stars off the scoreboard with three saves on four shots to help Maryville earn a hard-fought victory.
Inside the Numbers – The Saints held a 9-7 advantage in shots as both teams had five shots on goal in the match. Johnson led the attack for Maryville with three shots. Nash fished the day with five saves to earn her fifth clean sheet of the season.
