St. Louis – The Maryville baseball team dominated the University of Missouri-St. Louis on Friday afternoon at Weber Field.
Ryan Louck threw a complete game shutout on only 95 pitches while striking out 12 Tritons and giving the Saints a 4-0 series opening victory.
Game One:
The Saints and Tritons were locked up in a pitcher's duel until the Saints broke through in the fifth inning.
Jackson Burrell started off the inning with a double down the left field line and was pushed over to third base on a sacrifice bunt from
Nick Hofmann. Burrell came home courtesy of an
Alex Hoff RBI single through the left side, giving the Saints a 1-0 lead.
Michael Gould got things going in the seventh inning with a double to left center field.
Dominic Connolly brought home Gould with a frozen rope past the first baseman to make it 2-0.
Ben Hopkins followed with a double to left center and Connolly raced around the bases to score from first and extend the Maryville advantage to 3-0.
Hoff continued the scoring in the eighth inning with a blast to left center field, notching his fourth homerun of the year and giving the Saints a commanding 4-0 lead.
That is all pitcher Louck would need as he threw a complete game shutout with 12 strikeouts and only allowed three hits.
