Mirza Hasecic scored a pair of goals while
Eyob Tadesse handed out two assists as the No. 2 seeded Maryville men's soccer team moves on to the semifinals of the Great Lakes Valley Conference Men's Spring Soccer Championship with a 3-0 win over No. 7 McKendree Monday afternoon at Maryville Field.
What Happened – Hasecic put the Saints on the scoreboard in the 29
th minute as he stole a pass from a Bearcat defender and slid a shot from the right wing into the lower left corner of the goal to give Maryville a 1-0 lead.
Victor DeGiorgio extended the lead in the 41
st minute as he collected a pass off a break-away from
Eyob Tadesse and found the right corner of the goal to push the Saints advantage to 2-0.
Hasecic added to the lead in the early portion of the second half as he took a centering pass and placed a header into the right side of the goal to make the score 3-0 in the 51
st minute.
Cedric Sengl and Tadesse each were credited with an assist on the play.
Inside the Numbers – The Saints fired a season-high 21 shots in the contest while allowing only one Bearcat attempt. Hasecic had five shots in the match with four of them being on frame.
Liam Walraven had one save in the game to earn his fifth clean sheet of the season.
