Sengl Propels Saints Past Quincy 3-2 to Advance to the GLVC Championship Game

St. Charles, Mo. – The second-seeded Maryville men's soccer team needed a late goal from Cedric Sengl to advance to the Great Lakes Valley Conference Spring Soccer Championship match with a 3-2 victory over No. 3 Quincy Friday afternoon at Hunter Stadium in St. Charles, Mo. This is the second time in three seasons that the Saints have advanced to the championship game.

What Happened – The Hawks cracked the scoreboard first in the 22nd minute with a goal that found the lower right side of the net to give Quincy a 1-0 lead. Tim Smith and Victor DeGiorgio were credited with assists on the play.

DeGiorgio wasted no time putting the Saints on top in the second half as he took advantage of a misplayed ball in the 18-yard box and scored to give Maryville a 2-1 lead. The Hawks battled back and tie the game in the 71st minute to put the score at 2-2. Sengl put the Saints on top for good in the 86th minute as he collected a pass from Fabian Wetl and sent a blast to the upper right corner of the goal to give Maryville a 3-2 late game advantage.
