Indianapolis –
Tyler Ward and
Jackson Burrell each drove in three runs in the nightcap to propel the Maryville baseball team to a doubleheader split with the University of Indianapolis Friday afternoon at Greyhound Park. The Greyhounds used a pair of big innings to take the opener 6-4, while the Saints pounded out 12 hits in the second game of the day to defeat UIndy 8-6.
Game One:
The Greyhounds opened the scoring by plating three runs on three hits in the bottom of the first to grab an early 3-0 lead. The Saints took the lead in the top of the second as
Dominic Connolly and
Joey Polak each hit two-run singles to give Maryville a 4-3 advantage.
UIndy evened the game in the bottom of the third with a solo home run to right field to make the score 4-4. The Greyhounds regained the lead in the fifth with a pair of extra base hits to score two runs to take a 6-4 lead. The Greyhounds retired the final six Maryville batters to claim the opening game victory.

Game Two:
The Saints sent 10 batters to the plate in the top of the first to grab an early advantage over the Greyhounds. After a pair of singles to open the game, Polak and matt Schuler each drove in runs with singles to give Maryville a 2-0 lead. Ward then cleared the bases with a two-run triple to left field to extend the advantage to 4-0. Burrell added a two-run single to give the Saints a 6-0 lead. UIndy cut into the lead with four runs in the bottom of the first to make the score 6-4.
After the Greyhounds scored a run in the bottom of the second to cut the Maryville advantage to 6-5, Burrell drove in a run with a double to give the Saints a 7-5 lead. UIndy had a chance in the sixth with runners at first and second with one out, but
Drake Salsman worked out of the jam by getting a strikeout and a groundout to keep the score at 7-5.
The Saints added an insurance run in the seventh as Ward grounded into a fielder's choice to drive in a run to put Maryville on top 8-5. The Greyhounds scored a run in the bottom of the seventh to make the score 8-6, but Salsman forced a fly out to end the game and help the Saints snap its five-game losing skid.
