Romeoville, Ill. – Despite a pair of home runs by Joey Polak, the Maryville baseball team fell behind early and could not recover as Lewis defeated the Saints 12-3 at Brennan Field in Romeoville, Ill., Saturday afternoon.
 
Game One: 
The Flyers wasted no time in taking the lead as Lewis scored five runs on five hits in the bottom of the first to grab an early 5-0 lead. The Saints had an opportunity to crack the scoreboard in the second as Jackson Burrell and Matt Schuler opened the frame with back-to-back singles, but the Flyers forced a pair of flyouts to end the uprising with no runs scored. Lewis added a run in the third to extend the lead to 6-0.
 
Joey Polak put Maryville on the scoreboard in the top of the fifth with a two-run blast over the left field wall to cut the deficit to 6-2. The Flyers gained one of the runs back in the sixth to put the score at 7-2. The Saints continued to battle in the seventh as Polak hit his second long ball of the day to left center to make the score 7-3. Lewis responded in the home half of the seventh with five runs to take a 12-3 advantage.
