Bolivar, Mo. – The Maryville baseball team smashed five home runs and pounded out 22 hits en route to a doubleheader sweep of Southwest Baptist Tuesday afternoon at Dodson Field in Bolivar, Mo. The Saints scattered nine hits and homer in a 5-4 victory over the Bearcats in the opener. Maryville hit four long balls in the nightcap to claim a 13-2 win and the mid-week sweep of Southwest Baptist.
Game One:
The Bearcats opened the scoring in the first frame as they took advantage of two hits and an error to grab an early 2-0 lead. The Saints cut the lead in half in the third as
Dominic Connolly drove in a run with a single up the middle to make the score 2-1.
Maryville continued to battle in the top of the fifth as Connolly ripped double to right field to score
Matt Schuler from first base to even the game at 2-2. The Saints took the lead in the top of the sixth as
Michael Gould drew a walk and moved to third on a single by
Elias Stevens to put runners at the corners.
Nick Hofmann cleared the bases with a three-run blast over the left field wall to give Maryville a 5-2 lead.
The Bearcats cut the Maryville advantage to a run in the home half of the seventh with a two-run homer, but
Drake Salsman slammed the door on the uprising in recording the final out and preserving the win for the Saints.
Ryan Louck threw six innings with five strike outs to earn his fourth win of the season.

Game Two:
The Saints did not waste any time in the nightcap as
Ben Hopkins smashed a three-run blast over the right field wall to stake Maryville to a 3-0 lead in the top of the first. The Bearcats answered with a run in the home half of the frame to cut the Saints advantage to 3-1.
Alex Hoff opened the second with a solo shot to left center to once again give Maryville a three run lead at 4-1. The Saints added another run in the second as
Joey Polak scored on a pass ball to make the score 5-1. After Southwest Baptist scored a run in the bottom of the second, Hofmann extended the lead with his second home run of the day, this one a two-run blast, to put the Saints on top 7-2.
The Saints added a run in the sixth as Hopkins drove in his fourth run of the contest with a double down the right field line to score Connolly from first as it extended the Maryville lead to 8-2. The Saints scored five times in the top of the seventh as Hoff hit his second home run of the game,
Desmond Woods ripped a two-run double to right center, and Hofmann hit a two-run single to extend the lead to 13-2.
