St. Louis – The Maryville baseball team earned a split with No. 10 Lindenwood Saturday afternoon at Weber Field. In game one, the Lions took control early and secured a 13-4 victory. The bats came alive near the end of game one for the Saints and continued into the second game of the day as the Saints knocked three longballs and took the nightcap, 6-3.
Game One:
The Lions used a big third inning to take an early 6-0 lead over the Saints. They extended their lead in the fourth inning with three more runs to make it a 9-0 ballgame.
Lindenwood added four more in the sixth inning to take a 13-0 lead. Maryville got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the sixth as
Joey Polak drove in
Desmond Woods with his 11
th homerun of the season to straightaway centerfield and made it a 13-2 contest.
In the bottom of the seventh, pinch-hitter
Elijah Schumer knocked a double off the top of the fence in left to put a man in scoring position for the Saints. Woods brought him in with his first collegiate homerun over the right field wall to create a 13-4 score line. That was as close as the Saints would get as the Lions claimed game one, 13-4.

Game Two:
Lindenwood grabbed another early lead in game two with two runs in the third inning. Maryville answered back in the fourth with a
Ben Hopkins solo shot to right field, cutting the deficit in half to 2-1. Two batters later,
Austin Tapella doubled in
Elias Stevens to tie the game 2-2.
The Lions quickly reclaimed the lead with a leadoff homerun to start the fifth inning and went up 3-2. The Saints responded in a big way in the bottom half of the fifth when Stevens smoked a three-run homerun to centerfield, giving the Saints a 5-3 lead.
Dominic Connolly added an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth with a solo homerun to put the Saints up 6-3. Starting pitcher
Drake Salsman shut the door on the Lions by striking out five of the final six batters he faced to give the Saints a 6-3 win.
