Romeoville, Ill. - The Maryville men's lacrosse team closed out the regular season with a 9-6 defeat at Lewis Saturday afternoon in gusting winds outside of Chicago. The Flyers used a strong middle two quarters to post the win. Five different Saints scored, and
Ben Foster topped Maryville with two tallies.
What Happened
The Flyers scored the first two goals of the game before
Jake Foster and
Ben Foster both found the back of the next to tie the game 2-2 after the first quarter. Lewis took a 3-2 edge early in the second before
Justin Morgan scored from just in front of the cage to tie the tilt 3-3 with just under six minutes left. The Flyers tacked on two more scores just before halftime to take a 5-3 lead into the break.

Lewis tallied three times in the third while keeping the Saints off the board to build an 8-3 advantage heading into the final 15 minutes.
Ethan Olson took advantage of a two-man up situation and fired in a hard shot from the right side to pull the Saints to 8-4 at the 13:32 mark of the fourth quarter. Both defenses took over as neither team scored for nearly 10 minutes. Lewis scored with four minutes left to break the drought.
Ben Foster and
Jacob Allen scored in the final minutes but the Saints were unable to close the gap any further.

What's Next?
Maryville has clinched a berth in the 2021 GLVC Men's Lacrosse Tournament hosted by Lindenwood and plays in the semifinals Friday, May 7, in St. Charles, Mo. Opponent and game time will be determined later.
