Baseball Team Adds Four Transfers for 2022 Season

The Maryville University baseball team announced the addition of four student-athletes to the roster for the 2022 season. Joining the Saints are Andy Bunton (Danville, Ill. / Danville), Geoffrey Camfield (St. Louis, Mo. / Chaminade), Nick Schmidt (Wentzville, Mo. / Holt) and Brad Willis (Kansas City, Mo. / Winnetonka).

An infielder, Bunton comes to Maryville after two seasons at Danville Area Community College. He was a first-team All-MWAC selection in 2021. Bunton led Danville in batting average, runs scores, hits, triples on-base percentage and stolen bases. He hit .429 with 54 runs and 32 RBIs this past spring.

Camfield arrives at Maryville via Spring Hill College. He appeared in 16 games on the mound for SHC and posted a 6-3 career mark. Camfield threw 55-2/3 innings with 45 strikeouts and held opposing hitters to a .268 mark.

Schmidt comes back to the St. Louis area after three years at Missouri State but will have two seasons of eligibility at Maryville. The right-hander pitched in 29 games for the Bears and made three starts. Schmidt recorded 38 strikeouts in 44 innings of work while allowing opponents to bat just .256 at MSU. At Holt High School, he was the 2017 Gateway Athletic Conference Player of the Year and a second-team All-Metro selection. Schmidt was the No. 3 overall player in the state by Prep Baseball Report in 2017.

Willis is a graduate transfer from Missouri Southern who began his collegiate career with two seasons at Jefferson College. He started all 20 games as a utility player for the Lions before MSSU's 2020 season was cut short due to the CoVID-19 pandemic. Willis hit .271 with 20 runs scored and 13 RBIs in 2020. He will have one season of eligibility with the Saints.
