Women's Soccer Drops Final Exhibition Match 1-0

St. Louis, Mo. – The Maryville University women's soccer team traveled down highway 64 to take on Washington University in an exhibition match Monday night and lost a tight defensive battle, 1-0.

The Run of Play – The Bears created two quality chances in the first half, but goalkeeper Katie Nash was up to the task and produced two sprawling saves to keep the match scoreless through 45 minutes.

Nash was called on again in the 61st minute, producing the best save of the night, diving to her left to deny a Washington header attempt.

Midfielder Halle Ezell had an opportunity in the 75th minute for the Saints but sent the shot over the crossbar. Substitute goalie Keely Monroe made an impressive save in the 85th minute to keep the match level, but the Bears pounced on the second chance opportunity and Washington secured the 1-0 victory.

Next Up – The Saints start regular season play against Palm Beach Atlantic University on Friday, Sept. 3, in West Palm Beach, Fla. The match with the Sailfish is set to begin at 5 p.m. (CT).
