Owensboro, Ky. - The Maryville volleyball squad picked up two victories on the first day of a tournament hosted by Kentucky Wesleyan. The Saints gained a measure of revenge with a sweep of West Virginia State then battled to take down Lee University in a five-set decision.

The Saints handed WVSU its first loss of the season by scores of 25-19, 25-17, 26-24. Maryville took command of set one with an 8-0 run, keyed by
A.J. Hallemann's three service aces. WVSU made a late push but the Saints used a 4-0 burst to seal the win. Set two saw the Saints trail 9-8 but a 5-0 spurt led to a 13-9 edge. Maryville led by as many as five and ended the set by scoring three straight. WVSU built a 12-6 cushion before the Saints responded by scoring four consecutive points to jump back into the set. Maryville was still down 19-17 but charged ahead 20-19. The score was tied five more times, the last at 24-24.

The Saints rallied for a 23-25, 25-15, 25-15, 25-27, 15-8 decision to close out action Friday.
Lee took an early lead and the Saints never pulled ahead in set one, while Maryville cruised to matching 25-15 wins in the second and third. The Saints had a chance to close out the match before Lee scored two straight and forced a decisive fifth set. However, Maryville took control early to win its second straight match. The Saints hit .529 in the final set to power to the victory.
