Springfield, Ill. – The Maryville University men's soccer team took on the University of Illinois-Springfield Sunday afternoon to kick off the 2021 Great Lakes Valley conference campaign. The Saints could not muster up any offense and dropped the road contest 1-0. Â

Nick Hemann made his first start of the season and made a critical save in the 10
th minute to keep the match scoreless. In the 27
th minute, the Prairie Stars scored off a free kick to take a 1-0 lead that they held into halftime.

The Saints struggled in the final third all game and only created one shot on goal in the second half courtesy of

th minute. Maryville fell by a score of 1-0 in the GLVC opener.
