Springfield, Ill. – The Maryville University women's soccer team opened Great Lakes Valley Conference play Sunday afternoon against the University of Illinois-Springfield with a tough 1-0 loss.
 
The Run of Play – Junior Molly Krispin and freshman Tori Calvert peppered the Prairie Stars goalkeeper early but could not find the back of the net. UIS broke through first with a goal in the 36^th minute to make it a 1-0 contest.
 
The Saints put three shots on frame in the second half, but the Prairie Stars defense stood tall, and Maryville fell in the GLVC opener 1-0.
 
Inside the Numbers – Maryville notched five shots on goal compared to the one from UIS.
