Chesterfield, Mo. – The Maryville University M1 hockey team opened the 2021-22 season with two dominant victories this past weekend over the University of Alabama. Friday nights festivities saw the Saints trounce the Tide 10-0 in front of a rowdy Dawg Pound student section. The Saturday contest was a come from behind 4-2 win to cap off a perfect start to the regular season.

Game One vs. Alabama:
The season opener was all Maryville Friday night at the Maryville University Ice Hockey Center. The Saints grabbed two goals in the first period, five goals in the second period, and three goals in the third period from a total of nine different goal scorers. Captain
Jack Harrison led the way with two goals and freshmen
Will Smith and
Lucas Adams tallied their first collegiate goals. Four players collected two assists, including
Anthony Stavrou,
Damian Caringi,
Brad Boudreau, and
Cole Bohnet. Goaltender
Ed Coffey stopped all nine of the shots he saw, and the Saints walked away with a 10-0 victory.

Game Two vs. Alabama:
Saturday night started off slower for
John Hogan's bunch. Alabama found the back of the net twice with a goal in the first three minutes of the first and second periods to take a 2-0 lead. Senior Harrison led the comeback charge for the Saints, first by assisting Adams in the second period, followed by a goal of his own midway through the third period to tie the game 2-2. Ninety seconds later, Stavrou completed the comeback with his second goal of the season to give Maryville a 3-2 lead. Senior
Kole Mudra made it four unanswered goals for the Saints with an empty netter late in the third to secure the 4-2 victory. Goalie
Dominic Boily collected the win with 10 saves on the night.
