Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Saints Lose Heartbreaker 4-3 in 2OT

Quincy, Ill. – The Maryville University women's soccer team came from behind twice Sunday against Quincy University, but could not hold on in double overtime and fell 4-3.

The Run of Play – The Saints started the game on the back foot after allowing two goals in the first 18 minutes, but the women were able to dig themselves out of that hole before halftime. Senior Madison Canoy started the comeback in the 26th minute after splitting the Hawks defense and beating the 'keeper to make it a 2-1 deficit. Maryville tied the game 2-2 in the 43rd minute when the Saints received an indirect free kick in a dangerous area right outside the box. Junior Molly Krispin tapped the ball a yard to her left where freshman Lotte Brands fired home a rocket past the wall of defenders, off the left post and in the net for her first collegiate goal.

Quincy jumped back on top in the 55th minute with a penalty kick that barley beat goalkeeper Katie Nash. Forwards Amanda Kaltwasser and Lexi Gentry were not going to go down easily, as they worked the ball through the final third with a beautiful give and go, freeing up Kaltwasser to beat the goalie and tie the game 3-3 in the 82nd minute.

Both teams traded blows in the two overtime periods, but Quincy was able to grab the game-winner in the final minute of play and took the contest 4-3.

Inside the Numbers – The Saints fired a season high nine shots on goal in the match. Kaltwasser and Canoy led the way with three shots on goal apiece.
