Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Kaltwasser Goal Not Enough in 2-1 OT Loss

St. Louis, Mo. – The Maryville University women's soccer team came back from an early deficit in the first half Friday afternoon but was unable to stop a Rockhurst University free kick in overtime that sealed the 2-1 win for the Hawks.

The Run of Play – The Saints fell behind early after an own goal from an unlucky deflection that put the Hawks up 1-0. In the 31st minute, Amanda Kaltwasser took a pass from Tori Calvert and ripped a shot that went off the fingertips of the Rockhurst goalie and into the back of the net to tie the game at 1. Goalkeeper Katie Nash came up with the biggest save of the day in the 33rd minute on a breakaway attempt from the Hawks, which was followed by a goal line stand from the Saints defense, blocking multiple shot attempts to keep the score level.

Lexi Gentry and Halle Ezell had the best chances early in the second half, but none found the goal. The Hawks had late chances in the 81st minute that were denied by the post and Nash, pushing the game to overtime tied 1-1.

In the second straight overtime match for the Saints, Ezell and Madison Canoy had chances, but Rockhurst was the team that capitalized on a free kick in the 97th minute to win the game 2-1.

Inside the Numbers – This was the fourth overtime match of the season for the Saints in six total games played.
