Brauman Leads with Eight Kills While Hitting .467 but Quincy Downs the Saints

St. Louis – Freshman Makenna Brauman paced the Maryville volleyball team with eight kills while hitting .467 but Quincy defeated the Saints in three. Set scores were 25-13, 25-21, 25-19.

What Happened
Brauman notched a kill to pull the Saints to within 5-4 in the first set but QU reeled off five straight points to surge ahead. The freshman finished another play before the visitors added on a 4-0 burst. The Saints jumped on top in the second as Grace Knadler and Mikaela Kues had a block to start a quick 3-0 run. Abbie Schnell tipped in a point, and a QU error gave the Saints a 4-1 edge. Maryville's margin was still 9-7 after an Ashlyn Clayton kill. The Hawks answered with four consecutive points and went up 11-9 and eventually took a five-point lead. The Saints stayed close and a Quincy error and a kill by Karolina Rodowski brought Maryville to 22-19. However, the Saints never cut the deficit below two.

In the final set, Quincy grabbed an early 4-0 margin before the Saints inched back into the set. Maryville forged a tie at 7-7 before a QU error gave the home squad an 8-7 edge. The set was tied two more times, including a Rodowski kill that tied the set at 12-12. Quincy answered with three straight points to take a lead they would not give up the rest of the way.
