Fort Lauderdale, Fla. – The Maryville University women's soccer team secured win number one of the 2021 season with a 2-1 comeback victory over Nova Southeastern University Sunday morning. Senior
Kennedy Reeser led the charge, assisting both goals on the day.
The Run of Play – The Saints fell behind early after the Sharks found the scoresheet in the 19
th minute to make it a 1-0 ballgame.
Sophomore
Rachel Martin brought Maryville level in the 71
st minute with a left-footed blast from the 18-yard box that found the top corner. Both teams had chances late, but the contest went to overtime tied 1-1.
It wasn't till 25 seconds into the second overtime that the Saints were able to break the deadlock. Reeser whipped a cross into the box and found the head of
Tori Calvert who floated the shot past the diving Sharks goalkeeper, giving
Lori Chalupny's team the 2-1 comeback win.
Inside the Numbers – This was the second of five straight road matches to start the year for the women's team. The Saints first home match won't be till Friday, Sept. 24.

Next Up – The women's soccer team opens up GLVC competition Sunday, Sept. 12 against the University of Illinois-Springfield. The matchup with the Prairie Stars will begin at 12 p.m. at Lee Field in Springfield, Ill.
