Doherty Goal Pushes Saints to 1-1 Draw

Kansas City, Mo. – The Maryville University men's soccer team traveled to the Swope Soccer Village in Kansas City, Mo. Wednesday afternoon to take on Fort Hays State University and walked away with a 1-1 draw.

The Run of Play – The Great American Conference foe struck first with a free-kick from just outside the 18-yard box to take a 1-0 lead in the 11th minute. The Saints dominated the possession in the first half, but they could not capitalize on their six shot attempts and five corner kicks and went into the half down 1-0.

Freshman Jimmy Doherty changed the tide for Maryville in the second half with the first goal of his young career. Midfielder Ricardo Andrade whipped in a cross to the penalty spot where Doherty fired home a one-timer to tie the game 1-1 in the 64th minute.

90 minutes was not enough to settle this battle, so the Saints headed to overtime for the second time in three matches.

The Saints back line came up big in the overtime periods and made crucial clearances to give David Korn's team a 1-1 draw.

Records – Maryville – 2-0-1
                  Fort Hays State – 1-1-1
