St. Louis – For the second straight outing, the Maryville men's team dropped a heartbreaker and was tripped up late 62-60 by William Jewell Saturday afternoon.
Ari Jackson led the Saints with 13 points, while
Jaeden Smith and
Daniel Farris tallied 11 points apiece. Smith found the range from deep as he knocked down three of his five attempts from beyond the arc. The Saints led the game for 31:53.

What Happened:
In a defensive battle in the first half, the Saints scored the opening six points of the game. Maryville stayed in front and took a 26-21 lead into intermission.
JT Morgan flipped in a short jumper for a 28-21 advantage. The Cardinals rallied to tie the game at 30-30 but Jackson sank two free throws and a Farris jumper rebuilt a four-point edge.

Harrison Vickers scored for a 38-35 margin but William Jewell took its first lead at 40-38 with 10:16 remaining in the second half. Still tied at 46-46, The Saints went on a 9-2 run. Smith drilled a triple and
Cameron Scales sank one free throw. After a WJC bucket, Smith sank his third 3-pointer in a two-minute span. Morgan had an offensive putback as the Saints went up 55-48 with four minutes to go. However, the Cardinals scored 10 unanswered points to jump ahead. Jackson scored on a drive to pull Maryville to within one but WJC sank all four free throws in the waning seconds to hold on for the win.

What's Next?
The Saints were scheduled to play at Drury but that game has been postponed and now Maryville will next play Saturday, Jan. 29, with a contest at Southwest Baptist.
