Hammond, Ind. – On day one of the Midwest Crossover Tournament in Hammond, Ind., the Maryville volleyball team earned a split of its two match. The Saints were tripped up by Tiffin 25-20, 25-21, 19-25, 25-23 in the morning but rebounded to defeat Ohio Dominican in the afternoon 25-19, 30-28, 25-21.

The Saints fell behind in set one and slowly cut into Tiffin's lead. Maryville cut the gap to 17-16 on a Caroline Glastetter solo block. A kill by Grace Graham pulled the Saints to 18-17 but they never tied the set. Maryville scored three straight points capped by Ella Brinkmann's kill to build a 12-10 edge. However, the Dragons scored four straight points and did not surrender the lead the rest of the way. Maryville opened the third set by scoring six of the first eight points. The Saints stretched the advantage to as much as 10-3 on a kill by Alyssa Koska. Tiffin closed the gap but the Saints put the game away with a 5-0 burst. In the fourth set, Tiffin tallied the first two points before the Saints answered with a 7-0 run. Maryville kept a five-point edge up until 17-12 but Tiffin tied the set at 20-all. Maryville took a 21-20 lead before the Dragons closed out the match.

Maryville led for most of the first set but the score was tied at 17-17. Ella Brinkmann had a kill to spark a 4-0 run. ODU scored two straight before the Saints closed it out. Neither team led by more than three points in set two and the score was knotted nine times after 18-all. Deadlocked at 28-28, Taylor Keck and Hanna Dressing combined on a block. A hitting error by ODU gave the Saints a 30-28 win. Maryville was down in the third set 17-16 but scored four straight to surge ahead. ODU got to within 23-21 before a kill by Brinkmann and an ODU hitting miscue ended the match.
