DYER, Ind. – Maryville women's bowling finished second at the Valpo Bowling Classic over the weekend, going 10-3 including an appearance in the tournament first-place match. The Saints were led by
Brianna Schmidt who finished third in scoring average to earn a spot on the All-Tournament team.

Maryville moves to 18-7 in head-to-head play through two tournaments to begin the year. They have additionally won 11 of their last 13 contests.

In Baker play on Friday afternoon, Lauren Pate's squad went 5-0 including an opening win over Carroll University and a 1,060-948 victory over the University of Wisconsin – Whitewater. They then started traditional play Saturday with a win over tournament host Valparaiso after
Brianna Schmidt and
Anna Maxwell posted scores north of 200.

The Saints went on to finish day two at 4-1, including wins over Lewis University, Belmont Abbey College, and Tusculum University. Schmidt again led the way with a 209 against Lewis and a 220 against Belmont Abbey. Other notable scores from Saturday were Maxwell's 220 in a loss to Newman University and a 243 from
Natalie Heltne in the final win over Tusculum.

Sunday brought bracket play, pitting Maryville against Wisconsin-Whitewater in the first round as the top two teams in the tournament. The Saints dropped round one 1,257-1,120 to the Warhawks but rebounded in the second round with a win over Lewis to move into the championship.

Again, matched up with Wisconsin-Whitewater, Maryville fell just short to bring home second place in the tournament.

Schmidt finished third as an individual, posting an average score of 204.80 to earn a spot on the All-Tournament Team. Maxwell and Heltne also finished in the top 10 in scoring average in the tournament, posting 201.00 and 199.80, respectively.

The women's bowling team continues their season in Houston, Texas, at the Track Kat Klash. Day one of the tournament is scheduled for Friday, Nov. 4, and it will run until Sunday, Nov. 6.
