Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Glisson, Sengl Lead Maryville to 2-0 Victory Over Southwest Baptist

BOLIVAR, Mo. – The Maryville University men's soccer team finished off the weekend with a 2-0 victory on the road at Southwest Baptist University. Goals from Bryce Glisson and Cedric Sengl powered the Saints over the Bearcats while the Saints' defense allowed just four shot attempts total.

The win helps solidify their lead in the Great Lakes Valley Conference at 7-1-1 (22 points) and moves their overall record to 8-4-1 in 2022.

Mirza Hasecic kick-started his team's momentum by putting a shot on goal in under three minutes to begin the game. Roughly 15 minutes later, Victor DeGiorgio put a shot on goal but was turned aside by Bearcat goalkeeper leading to a Maryville throw-in.

With the ball back in play, the Saints crossed and found Bryce Glisson who sent the ball over the keeper and under the crossbar for a 1-0 advantage and his first goal at Maryville. The junior's tally stood up as the lone goal in the first half.

In under a minute to begin the second half, Fabian Wetl sent a ball up into the box that the SBU goalkeeper misplayed. Kevin Mulinya swooped in and found a wide-open Cedric Sengl who buried the shot. Sengl's fourth goal of the campaign doubled his team's lead and pushed his point streak to four games.

The Maryville offense continued pressing throughout the remainder of the game, firing 10 shot attempts in the second half, but were ultimately held quiet to finish with a 2-0 final. The defense for the Saints stepped up on Sunday as well, allowing four total shot attempts and a single shot on target.

Next up for the Saints is a home matchup with the University of Missouri – St. Louis on Friday, Oct. 14. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. at the Maryville Soccer Field.
