BOLIVAR, Mo. – The Maryville women's soccer team defeated the Southwest Baptist University Bearcats 1-0 on Sunday afternoon. The visiting offense was relentless on the road at SBU, piling up 19 shots on goal while earning a victory on the strength of
Ashlyne Hunt's goal in the ninth minute.

The victory moves the Saints to 7-2-4 in 2022 and 5-0-4 in Great Lakes Valley Conference play. Additionally, it pushes their record to a perfect 5-0 against the Bearcats all-time.

Maryville came out in the first half and peppered Bearcat goalkeeper Ashlynn Edison with shots on goal in the first half. They forced her to make four saves before jumping ahead 1-0 in the ninth minute.

After a corner kick got deflected outside the box,
Tori Calvert retained possession and airmailed a pass to the team's leading scorer
Ashlyne Hunt. The forward from O'Fallon, Mo. headed the feed out of the air and through Edison on the short side for a one-goal advantage.

The offense continued to apply pressure through the remainder of the first half, adding three more shots on goal. In total, the Saints took 10 more shot attempts than SBU in the first 45 minutes.

It was more of the same in the second. The Saints fired 14 more shots and 10 on target before time expired on a 1-0 victory. Hunt picked up her second game-winner of the season while
Maddie Dickerman led the team in shots on goal with four.
Katie Nash additionally made two saves to earn her second shutout of the weekend.

Next up for the women's soccer team is a home match against the University of Missouri – St. Louis on Friday, Oct. 14. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
