Ari Jackson led four Maryville men's basketball players in double figures with 16 points as the Saints opened the 2022-23 season with a 72-61 triumph over Tiffin Friday. The contest was the first in the GMAC-GLVC Crossover Tournament in North Canton, Ohio. Jackson tied for the Saints lead with eight rebounds, while Dewayne Vass had 15 points and eight caroms.
Dylan Ingram chipped in 14 points, while
Kelvin Swims finished with 12.

The Saints were up 13-9 before Jackson was fouled shooting a 3-pointer. After converting all three at the stipe, he scored on the next possession. Tiffin scored but
Ben Palacios drilled a triple for a 21-11 lead. Maryville was still up 30-24 before extending its edge.
Jaeden Smith drained a 3-pointer, and Swims added a layup in transition. Ingram powered inside for a layup as the Saints built a 37-24 cushion. Maryville took a 40-30 lead into the break.

The Saints stayed in front and were still up 53-47 after a Jackson triple at the 11:27 mark. Tiffin had its best run of the night and edged in front 54-53. The teams traded baskets and the score was knotted up at 57-all. Smith sank a 3-pointer to give the Saints the lead for good at 60-57 with seven minutes to go. Ingram converted two at the line that sparked a decisive 9-0 burst. Vass made two free throws and followed with a layup. Smith swished a triple and Maryville took command at 69-59.
