Liberty, Mo. – The Maryville men's basketball team ran its winning streak to five by rallying for a 59-51 victory at William Jewell.
Kelvin Swims led the Saints with 18 points and nine rebounds.
Dewayne Vass added 16 points, while
JT Morgan also grabbed nine boards. At 6-1, the Saints are off to their best start since the 2012-13 team began the year with an 8-1 mark.

The Saints were ahead 13-12 before
Ben Palacios sank two free throws, and a hoop by
Dewayne Vass led to a 17-12 edge. The Cardinals tied the game at 17-all but Palacios put Maryville up 19-17. William Jewell scored nine straight points to jump in front. Palacios scored to snap the WJC run but the Cardinals grabbed a 33-25 advantage at halftime.

Down 37-27, the Saints tallied nine straight points.
Kelvin Swims sank a jumper, and
Ari Jackson drained a 3-pointer. Vass added two free throws and a bucket to draw Maryville to within 37-36.
Harrison Vickers found the range from beyond the arc to boost the Saints up 41-39 with 11 minutes to play.

The Saints were up 43-41 and tacked on six straight points. Swims made two free throws and a layup before Vass scored on a jumper for a 49-41 margin. The Cardinals got as close as 53-48 but Swims scored on a layup, and a hoop by Morgan gave the Saints a nine-point advantage in the final minute.

The Saints allowed their fewest points of the season and held the Cardinals to just 36.8 percent shooting.
