LEBANON, Ill. – In the first Great Lakes Valley Conference Championship game in program history, Maryville University women's soccer will face the University of Illinois Springfield.
Maryville entered the GLVC Championship tournament as the third seed after posting its first unbeaten conference record in program history at 6-0-6. They opened the tournament at home against Drury University, winning 1-0 on the strength of Elsa Nilson-Hurtig's first-half goal. They followed up in the GLVC Semifinals with a 2-1 come-from-behind victory on the road against No. 17 McKendree University on Friday night.
Illinois Springfield also appears in its first GLVC Championship game in program history. The Prairie Stars took down fourth-seeded Lewis University on the road in the GLVC Quarterfinals before a 2-1 victory over eighth-seeded University of Missouri – St. Louis in Lebanon, Ill., in the semifinals.
In their last meeting, Maryville dominated UIS with a 4-0 home win on Friday, Sept. 16. Sara Lawler started the scoring just seven minutes in to be followed later by goals from Madison Canoy, Ashlyne Hunt, and Gina Catanzaro.
