Antoinette Mussorici scored 23 points as the Maryville women's basketball team rolled to a 73-37 win over Quincy. The Saints shot 50 percent from the field while holding the Hawks to just 18.6 percent (11-of-59) shooting. The 37 points surrendered are the fewest Maryville has allowed in a Great Lakes Valley Conference game. The previous low was 39 points scored by Missouri S&T Jan. 26, 2013 and William Jewell Jan. 23, 2020.
What Happened:
Haidyn Pitsch drilled a 3-pointer for a 5-4 lead that sparked a 16-0 burst.
Maddy Meehan had a steal and a layup and
Olivia Kastens drilled a 3-pointer. Mussorici scored on a layup and a triple, and another Kastens' trey was good for an 18-4 lead. Quincy hit one free throw but the Saints scored eight points over the final two minutes of the quarter to build a 26-5 lead. The five points is tied for the fewest allowed in a quarter this season by Maryville.
Quincy pulled to within 18 early in the second before the Saints tallied five straight points and eventually took a 39-15 lead into break. The Maryville defense only allowed the Hawks to make five field goals as the visitors shot 16.1 percent in the first half.
The Saints stretched their margin to as large as 36 and cruised to their second straight victory. Nine different Saints scored at least one point and the Saints shot 50.9 percent for the game.
