St. Louis - The Maryville baseball team lost the middle game of its series with Hillsdale 3-0 but rebounded by hammering out 18 runs in an 18-4 win in the finale Sunday.
Joey Polak went 5-for-5 with two home runs and five RBI to power the double-digit run outburst.

In the first game Sunday, Hillsdale pushed across two runs in the top of the first. Both starting pitchers put the clamps on the opposing offenses. The Saints pushed runners to second and third but stranded them to end the sixth inning. Maryville got a runner aboard in the seventh but were unable to get a run home as Hillsdale took the middle game of the series.

Polak had five hits and five RBIs as the Saints ran away from the Chargers in the last game of the series. The Saints scored the first two on a Polak blast and tacked on a third run in the second inning. Maryville pushed two more across in the third inning, highlighted by an
Alex Hoff double. The Saints scored for the fourth straight inning and built a 6-0 lead.

Hillsdale closed to 6-3 but Polak launched a solo blast in the sixth inning for a 7-3 margin. In the eighth frame, he ignited an 11-run inning with a two-run single and the Saints piled on with seven hits.

The Saints stay at home as they welcome Truman State for a four-game series starting Friday, March 4, with first pitch as 2 p.m.
