St. Louis - The Maryville baseball team lost the opening game of a four-game series with Truman State by a 15-3 count Friday. The Saints led 2-1 after five innings but the Bulldogs hung crooked numbers late in the game to win the first contest.
 
In the bottom of the first, Joey Polak singled home Michael Gould for a quick 1-0 lead. Truman State tied the game in the top of the fifth but Polak again plated Gould for a 2-1 edge. However, the Bulldogs scored five runs in the sixth and seventh innings to pull away for the victory.
 
The Saints (3-4) and Truman State (4-9) continue the series with two seven-inning games Saturday, March 4, with action starting at Noon.
