ST. LOUIS – The Saints took down the University of Southern Indiana for the second time in the last week on Tuesday afternoon, scoring 15 runs in an offensive outburst.

Southern Indiana Recap
Maryville starting pitcher Nick Schmidt got off to a great start in the first inning, striking out the first two batters he faced swinging followed by a groundball to the shortstop. In the bottom half, the Saints pushed across a run on Ben Hopkins single, but stranded runners on first and third to end the inning.
Â
Schmidt continued to find his groove through the next three frames, allowing no runs over his first four innings with nine strikeouts. The offense backed him up with a pair of runs in the fourth inning thanks to a Matt Schuler RBI single to right-center and a sacrifice bunt from Tyler Ward to bring in Alex Hoff.Â
Â
The Saints starter retired the side in order once again in the top of the fifth, ending his day with five innings pitched, two hits allowed, no runs, and 10 strikeouts. His offense padded the lead with nine more in the bottom of the fifth to push the lead to 12-0.
Â
Southern Indiana answered over the next three frames, scoring six runs highlighted by a grand slam from Gavin McLarty. The home team, however, continued to pour it on with a two-run home run from Brad Willis in the sixth and a bases-loaded walk from Zach Gross in the eighth.Â

Now up 15-8,
Pat Evers called upon
Cole Anderson to record the final two outs of the game. The Homewood, Illinois native got a strikeout and a pop-out to first base to make Maryville winners in five of their last six.Â
