ST. LOUIS – Maryville baseball dropped the first of a four-game set with Drury University on Friday afternoon, losing 5-4 after allowing the game-winning run on a wild pitch in the eighth inning.

Ryan Louck got off to a strong start in the first four innings, facing just one batter over the minimum and allowing no runs. Visiting starter Cody Bahl matched him with three scoreless frames of his own.

The Maryville offense broke the silence with three runs in the bottom of the fourth on a two-RBI double from
Joey Polak. A few batters later,
Michael Gould ripped a single into center field to bring Polak in.

Drury responded quickly with a pair of home runs in the top of the fifth to knot the game up at three. That is until shortstop
Dominic Connolly doubled home a run in the bottom of the fifth to take a 4-3 lead.

The Panthers again tied the game in the top of the sixth. After a scoreless seventh, the visitors scratched another run home on a wild pitch in the eighth to push ahead 5-4. Nate Boyle finished off the Saints with a save in the ninth.
