Saints Men's Lacrosse Sets School Record for Goals in 26-5 Win at Shorter

Rome, Ga. – The Maryville men's lacrosse team set a program record for goals as they cruised to a 26-5 victory at Shorter University Saturday afternoon. The output surpasses the previous mark of 24 goals scored at Wheeling Jesuit Feb. 10, 2019. Fifteen different Maryville players scored at least one goal and 17 Saints registered at least one point. Jacob Allen and Justin Morgan both tallied four goals and one assist for five points to top Maryville.

Reid Usrey tallied the first goal of the game, and Clayton Cerett doubled the Maryville lead 40 seconds later. Jacob Allen scored back-to-back goals within a minute for a 4-0 lead. The Saints added four more goals to build an 8-0 lead after one quarter. Justin Morgan scored early in the second quarter for a 9-0 edge until Shorter finally scored its first goal of the game. The Saints tacked on two more goals for an 11-1 advantage at halftime.
 
Maryville opened the third quarter with five goals by five different players and a 16-1 lead at the 10:58 mark. Shorter scored its second goal but the Saints stretched their margin to 21-2 after three quarters. The Saints closed out with five more goals in the fourth quarter. Cooper George went 10-for-10 at the faceoff dot as Maryville set a school record with 24 faceoff wins. The Saints also cleared all 18 of their attempts on the day.
