Maryville Bats Stay Hot to Take Series Finale Over Truman State

ST. LOUIS – Maryville University capped off a series victory over Truman State University on Sunday afternoon after a 19-run outburst led them to a game-four win. This was the first time the Saints scored at least 19 runs since a 19-9 eight-inning victory over Truman State on April 27, 2019.

Truman State Recap
The Saints kicked off the scoring with a six-run first inning. Elias Stevens drove in two runs with a double, Ben Hopkins drove in a run with a single, and Camden Ruby hit a three-run shot to right field.

After two more came across in the bottom of the second, Ruby continued to build up an impressive performance with a solo home run in the third and an RBI double in the fourth. The Saints piled more on in the fifth on RBI singles from Brad Willis and Elias Stevens to widen the gap to 12-0.

With Maryville starting pitcher Nick Schmidt pulled after five shutout innings, Truman State welcomed the bullpen with a four-run top of the sixth. The home team quickly answered in the bottom half with seven more runs, including a grand slam from Ben Hopkins and another RBI from Ruby on a triple.

The Bulldogs scored four more runs in the seventh before Ben Prywitch closed out the game with a scoreless relief appearance. In total, the Saints posted 23 hits in the 19-8 win over Truman State, winning their second weekend series of the season and improving their overall record to 6-4.
