Men's Volleyball Sweeps Both Contests at Morehouse

Atlanta, Ga. – The Maryville men's volleyball team took both ends of a doubleheader at Morehouse College Tuesday evening. The Saints won the opening match 25-9, 25-13, 25-13 then won the nightcap 25-11, 25-16, 25-8.
 
Morehouse Match One Recap
Tied at 3-3, the Saints scored five straight points and eight of the next nine points to pull away. Up 13-6, a block by Jacob Fischer and Mason Mortimer was the first as Maryville reeled off six consecutive points and quickly built a double-digit lead. The Saints closed out the set by scoring the last five points, with a kill by Sydney Mathias ending the set. Maryville held Morehouse to a -.227 hitting percentage.
 
The Saints led set two 15-11 before reeling off six straight for a 21-11 advantage. Maryville tallied the last three points to take the set by 12. In the third set, Davis Fleischer had a kill to start a 5-0 run. After Morehouse scored one point, the Saints scored five consecutive points, highlighted by three straight aces by Victor Ganev. The deficit ballooned to double digits, and a service ace by Ethan Beyreis-Heim closed out the match.

Morehouse Match Two Recap
The Saints jumped to a quick 6-0 and kept the advantage the rest of the way. Morehouse cut into the lead and got as close as 14-11 but the Saints scored 11 straight points to end the set. Leading set two 3-2, Maryville tallied six consecutive points. The Saints pushed out to a double digit lead at 21-11, and a kill by Fleischer ended the set at 25-16. Maryville surged in set three by tallying the first eight points of the third set. Still holding a 12-7 lead, the Saints went on an 8-0 burst and built a 20-7 advantage. Ethan Beyreis-Heim recorded the last three points of the match via service aces. The eight points allowed are the scored by a Maryville opponent in a set this season.
