KIRKSVILLE, Mo. – The Maryville University women's soccer team picked up a 3-0 road win over Truman State University on Friday afternoon. Goals from
Lexi Gentry,
Ashlyne Hunt, and
Erin Barnes in the first 30 minutes to go along with
Katie Nash's fifth shutout of the season gave the Saints their second win in conference play.
Â
Right from the kickoff, Maryville was ready for a battle. The visitors ripped three shots in the first ten minutes before opening the scoring in the 16th minute. Deep in the Bulldogs' territory near the corner flag,
Maddie Dickerman sent a ball into the middle of the box for Gentry who turned and put a perfectly placed shot on the left side of the net for a 1-0 lead.
Â
Keeping steady offensive pressure on Truman State, the Saints switched fields to
Ulrika Bredin who hit a Hunt in stride toward the goal. The junior's first touch on a perfect feed was a shot off of a sliding goalkeeper and into the goal for their second tally at 24:07.
Â
Just two minutes later, Dickerman again sent a ball into the middle of the box from the corner of the field, finding
Michala Fairchild. Fairchild sent a quick pass to
Erin Barnes who rocketed the ball high over the goalkeeper and under the bar for her first goal of 2022 and a 3-0 Maryville lead.
Â
After making two saves in the first half, goalkeeper
Katie Nash tallied two more in the second half to cap off a relatively uneventful period and a 3-0 shutout victory. Friday's win moves the Saints to 2-0-2 in Great Lakes Valley Conference play and 4-2-2 overall.
Â
Next up is a matchup with Quincy University as the road trip continues on Sunday, Sept. 18 in Quincy, Ill. Kickoff is scheduled for noon.Â
