Hunt Scores Twice in Maryville's Tie with Quincy

QUINCY, Ill. – Ashlyne Hunt led the Maryville women's soccer team to a 2-2 tie with Quincy University on Sunday afternoon with a pair of goals. The redshirt freshman from O'Fallon, Mo., brought her season goal tally up to four after bagging her second and third goals of the weekend.

The Hawks tested starting Saints goalkeeper Katie Nash with a pair of quick shots to start the game. At 4:44, Quincy fired a low shot to the center of the goal that the senior nabbed. A few minutes later, Tatum Brookhart sent another low shot to the bottom right corner that Nash again denied.

Now on the counter-attack, Maryville forward Tori Calvert sent a long pass up to Hunt who sped passed the Quincy defenders. Now one-on-one with the goalkeeper, Hunt found space between the post and the goalie for the first goal of the game.

The home team attempted to tie it up at 22:57 but was turned away by Nash. On the counter-attack again a minute later, Ulrika Bredin put a shot on looking to double the lead but was stopped by Olivia Kindt in goal.

Hunt and Hannah Kostelz each had a scoring chance later in the half, but the Saints were unable to add to their 1-0 lead before halftime.

Still trailing 1-0, Quincy's Jessica Felix found the back of the net at 60:49 to tie the game at 1-1. It was the first goal given up by the Maryville defense in the last 483 minutes of play.

In the 78th minute, Calvert forced a turnover at midfield, sending a blocked pass over to freshman Gina Catanzaro. Catanzaro then sent a quick pass on the ground to Hunt who burned by the defender and sent another one-on-one opportunity with the goalkeeper into the right side of the net for a 2-1 lead.

With time dwindling on a Quincy comeback, the Hawks forced a turnover off a Saints' goal kick, sent a pass into the box, and battled for a shot that found twine to knot the game at two with less than five minutes remaining.

Maryville made one last push in the final minute, earning a corner kick, but was unable to sneak away with a last-minute road win.

Next up for the Maryville women's soccer team is a pair of Homecoming Week matchups against William Jewell College on Friday, Sept. 30, and Rockhurst University on Sunday, Oct. 2.
