Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Goals from Kostelz, Vemdal Lead Saints to 7-0 Rout of William Jewell

ST. LOUIS – The Maryville women's soccer team picked up a 7-0 victory over William Jewell College on Friday afternoon behind Hannah Kostelz's opening goal at 34:31 and a pair of Nika Vemdal tallies in the second half. Both register their first collegiate goals in the Saints' largest victory in a Great Lakes Valley Conference game in program history.

With the win, Maryville remains unbeaten in conference play at 3-0-3 and improves their overall record to 5-2-3 in 2022.

The Saints applied heavy offensive pressure to the Cardinal defense over the first 30 minutes, getting off five shots to no avail. That is until junior Hannah Kostelz sent a ball into the top-right corner of the net at 34:31 for a 1-0 lead and her first goal at Maryville.

Less than a minute later, Chanda Breeggemann hit Molly Krispin for her first goal of the season to double the lead. Katie Nash and the defense kept the visitors off the board for the remainder of the half to head into the break with a 2-0 advantage.

The floodgates opened in the second half. In the 60th minute, reigning GLVC Offensive Player of the Week Ashlyne Hunt scored her fourth goal in the last three games off an assist from Maddie Dickerman. Nika Vemdal followed up with a pair of goals less than two minutes apart to blow open a 5-0 lead.

Erin Barnes picked up her second goal of 2022 at 78:32 when a pass from Kayley Carew set her up for the Saints' sixth goal. An unassisted goal by Madison Canoy at 84:46 closed out the eventful 7-0 rout of William Jewell on Friday.

Up next for Maryville women's soccer is a Homecoming Game matchup against Rockhurst University on Sunday, Oct. 2. Kickoff is scheduled for noon.
