QUINCY, Ill. – Maryville men's soccer moved their record in conference play to 4-0-1 after a 3-0 victory over Quincy University on Sunday afternoon.
Albert Escuin, backed by goals from
Mason Crew,
Victor DeGiorgio, and
Tim Smith, earned his third shutout of the season to hand the Saints their fifth win of the season.
The Hawks kept the Saints off the scoreboard for most of the first half despite the visitors taking a majority of the possession time early. That is until
Mason Crew received a pass in the box before a hard foul took him to the ground. The sophomore converted his penalty kick opportunity to give his team a 1-0 lead with 30 seconds remaining in the first.
It was more of the same for
David Korn's team in the second half, as they applied a ton of pressure while allowing no shots on goal. In total, the Saints gave up four shot attempts while allowing just a single shot on goalkeeper
Albert Escuin.
At 69:13, a cross into the box found
Tim Smith and was then headed to
Victor DeGiorgio who posted seven points in Friday's win over Truman State. DeGiorgio took the feed in the middle and buried the shot for his fourth goal of the weekend and a 2-0 Maryville lead.
Eight minutes later, Smith forced a turnover in the attacking zone and moved it up the field. Moments later,
Sebastian Weitlaner ball-handled around a trio of Hawk defenders and found Smith wide-open for a one-timer to cap off a 3-0 Saints victory.
The win moves the Saints to 5-3-1 in 2022 and 4-0-1 over their last five contests. Next up for the Maryville men's soccer team is a pair of Homecoming Week matchups against William Jewell College on Friday, Sept. 30, and Rockhurst University on Sunday, Oct. 2.
