ST. LOUIS – Maryville women's soccer dropped its final non-conference matchup of the regular season, losing 1-0 to the University of Missouri – St. Louis on Thursday evening. Despite dominating possession in the second half, the Saints could not mount a comeback after surrendering a first-half goal.
UMSL saw the first scoring chance of the day at 8:31 when Jaycee Cotton tested
Katie Nash with a low shot that she denied. The Saints responded two minutes later when
Kennedy Reeser took a ball off the corner kick and ripped two shots, both of which were blocked.
Molly Krispin, in her first game of the season, put a ball on goal off the rebound but was turned away by the Triton goalkeeper.
Later in the half, the Tritons scored the first goal at 27:45 when a shot from a tough angle ricocheted off a Maryville defender and into the back of the net.
The Saints tried to rebound in the second half, earning a majority of the possession in the final 45 minutes, including eight corner kicks, but could not sneak one by the UMSL defense. Freshman
Gina Catanzaro had the best scoring chance at 69:53 when she took a ball off the corner kick and sent it toward the goal to be denied by the crossbar.
The loss moves Maryville's record to 2-2 before heading into their first conference matchup against the University of Indianapolis on Sunday, Sept. 11. Kickoff is scheduled for 11 a.m. (CT).
