INDIANAPOLIS – Maryville University was picked fourth in the Great Lakes Valley Conference Baseball Preseason Poll released on Monday. The Saints are coming off a 2022 campaign where they set the program single-season record for wins (32) before going 1-2 in the GLVC Tournament to end the year.
The preseason poll is determined by the league's head coaches, who, per GLVC Bylaws, are not permitted to vote for their own team.
Maryville earned a total of 112 points, trailing only the University of Illinois Springfield, Quincy University, and Drury University whom all earned at least one first-place vote. Despite graduating several instrumental pieces from last year's team, the Saints return All-GLVC selections
Ben Prywitch,
Elias Stevens, and
Jacob Kroeger to go along with key additions who will look to continue building on last season's success.
Additionally, the Saints received votes in the first NCBWA Midwest Region Poll while Prywitch earned a selection to the NCBWA Midwest Region Preseason First Team.
The Saints open the season on Friday, Feb. 10, in Americus, Ga., against Georgia Southwestern State University. They open up their home schedule on Friday, Feb. 24, against Saginaw Valley State University and their GLVC schedule a couple of weeks later on the road against McKendree University on Friday, March 10.
