KANSAS CITY – Maryville men's soccer won 1-0 over Rockhurst University on Sunday afternoon. The Saints were led to a victory by
Nick Hemann's three-save shutout and a game-winning goal from Albert Di Pierri in the closing minutes of the first half.
Run of Play:
- Clayton Hamler put the first shot on net at the four-minute mark and was denied by Rockhurst keeper Fabio D'Errico. Mason Crew followed up 33 seconds later with a low shot which was saved as well.
- The Saints outshot the Hawks 6-2 in the first half and finally broke through when Alberto Di Pierri collected the ball of a corner kick and buried his shot for a 1-0 lead at 43:48.
- The Hawks tested Nick Hemann in the 55th minute, but he was up to the task making his third save of the afternoon.
- Both teams continued to struggle through a physical second half and it was Rockhurst who found another good scoring chance at 66:43. Fernando Churin put a shot in the lower-left corner of the goal but was turned away by Hemann.
- Looking to make it a two-goal performance, Di Pierri had another chance at 78:53 but D'Errico scooped up a low attempt.
- Still looking for the equalizer, the Hawks had Churin with another chance in the final minute, but the Maryville defense blocked his shot to finish off a shutout win.
