Fayette, Iowa – In its regular season finale, the Maryville volleyball team dropped a four-set decision at Upper Iowa. The Peacocks prevailed 25-22, 25-21, 25-27, 25-18. Ella Brinkmann hammered down 16 kills to guide the Maryville attack and finished off a double-double with 15 digs. Abbie Schnell handed out 23 assists, and Taylor Hasbrook was credited with 23 digs.
 
Trailing for most of the opening set, the Saints were down 14-10 but scored three straight points. After a UIU error, Brinkmann put down a kill, and another Peacocks miscue pulled the Saints to 14-13. Down by four, Maryville scored four of the next five points, and cut the gap to 22-21. However, the Peacocks scored three of the final four to win set one.
 
In set two, the Saints scored three straight points capped by Taylor Keck's kill for a 10-6 advantage. Upper Iowa edged ahead but Maryville again tallied three-in-a-row to rebuild a 16-14 margin. However, the Peacocks scored six straight points and eventually took set two.
 
Maryville grabbed an early lead in set three and used a 4-0 burst to build a 9-3 cushion. Lynsey Batson's kill was good for a 13-7 edge but UIU slowly rallied. The hosts eventually tied the score at 14-14 before the Saints responded with four consecutive kills. Maryville had set points at 24-21 but the Peacocks tied the score at 24-all. Upper Iowa had its own set point but Caroline Glastetter put down a kill to tie the score. After a UIU ball handling error, Glastetter and Hanna Dressing had a block for 27-25 and get the Saints on the board.
 
Set four saw the Saints sprint to a 6-2 lead and still up 8-5. The Peacocks tallied five straight to take charge. Maryville got one point back but UIU scored seven of the next eight. Down 19-12, the Saints crawled back into the set with a 4-0 run to make it 19-16. However, Upper Iowa scored three straight to re-establish a six-point margin and closed out the match.

What's Next?
The Saints have clinched a berth into the 2023 Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament in Williamsville, Ill., and await their opponent to be announced. The tourney begins Friday, Nov. 17, at Williamsville High School.
