St. Louis - The Maryville men's basketball team started the 2023-24 season by shooting 56.5 percent from the field to sail past Webster 83-51.
Dewayne Vass notched a double-double with 18 points and 10 assists, while
Anthony Holden added 16 points.
Noah Courtney chipped in 13 points, and
Tutu Chisholm hauled down 10 rebounds.

Webster led 12-11 before the Saints went on an 11-2 surge to grab the lead. Courtney started the run by grabbing an offensive rebound for a layup, and
Luke Williams followed with a driving layup. Holden knocked down a 3-pointer for an 18-12 advantage. After two Webster free throws, Chisholm and Vass had back-to-back buckets and a 22-14 cushion. Courtney and Vass knocked down jumpers, and a Williams layup pushed the lead to 31-17. The Saints took a 41-24 led into halftime.

The Saints tallied seven straight points to build their first 20-point advantage of the game. Vass sank two at the line, and
Ari Jackson sank a deep 3-pointer. Two more at the line from
Trey Redd extended the margin to 56-34 at the 14:28 mark. The Saints steadily pulled away and pushed the margin to more than 30 points. The Saints shot 61.5 percent from the field in the second half. Maryville turned the ball over only seven times while forcing Webster in 17 miscues.
