Saints Close Game on 13-1 Run to Beat Winona State 62-52

St. Louis - The Maryville women's basketball team closed the game on a 13-1 run to beat Winona State 62-52 Saturday afternoon. Antoinette Mussorici tallied a game-high 19 points, while Karlee Feldman powered to a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds. Haidyn Pitsch finished with 11 points.

Winona State recap
The Saints blazed out of the gates and scored the first 12 points of the contest. Mussorici drained a 3-pointer and followed with a layup. Feldman scored back-to-back layups, before a three-point play by Mussorici was good for lead that stood at a dozen. The Warriors finally scored at the 4:45 mark and the Saints took a 17-11 lead after the opening quarter. Winona surged in the second and closed to within two points. The Saints stayed ahead and toted a 27-21 edge into intermission.

Feldman scored to open the third, and a jumper by Pitsch extended the margin to double digits. A bucket by Mussorici and a triple by Pitsch gave the Saints a 36-24 cushion. Carsyn Fearday hit a late 3-pointer as Maryville went into the fourth quarter leading 45-35.

The Saints did not score for nearly four minutes and that allowed Winona State to come back and take its first lead of the game. The Warriors led 48-47 with five minutes to play but Feldman answered with a hoop. Winona State took its final lead at 51-49 with 3:45 remaining before the Saints mounted their late rally.

Gracie Stugart sank two free throws to tie the game, and Faith Hawthorne's offensive rebound and putback pushed the Saints ahead 53-51. She blocked a Winona State layup, and Pitsch splashed in a wing 3-pointer for a 56-51 advantage. The Maryville defense forced a turnover, and Stugart converted two more at the line. Winona State finally scored one free throw but Mussorici and Stugart both sank two free throws in the final seconds to seal the victory. The Saints forced Winona State to miss its final five field goal attempts in the waning minutes.
