MARQUETTE, Mich. – Maryville women's soccer fell 2-1 in the second round of the NCAA Tournament to Grand Valley State University on Sunday afternoon.
Lotte Brands scored in the 65th minute in a comeback bid attempt down 2-0, but it would not be enough as the Lakers advanced past the Saints to the third round.

Run of Play:
- The Lakers put a shot on goal in the second minute of the game but were turned away by Gigi Yurevich with a low save.Â
- Ashlyne Hunt, Sara Lawler, and Lotte Brands all took shots over the next five minutes.
- Yurevich was up to the task again in the 13th minute, turning Ella Kleiver aside.Â
- At 21:29, Tori Calvert put Maryville's first shot on target with a high shot, saved by Isabel Imes.Â
- Stephanie Sturgeon scored at 34:52 for the Lakers off an assist from Sophia Morgan to open up a 1-0 lead.
- GVSU scored again in the 64th minute when Ryan Fetty netted her third goal of 2023 after getting the feed from Abby Winn.
- Lotte Brands responded less than two minutes later with her first of the season to cut the lead in half.Â
- Brands tried to tie the game with another goal in the 78th minute, but missed high and to the right.
- The GVSU defense killed off the remaining time to earn a 2-1 victory.
