Parkside recap
In a defensive first half, the score was tied at 12-12 before the Rangers scored seven straight. Williams sank two free throws to break the Maryville drought. Smith hit a 3-pointer, and
Tutu Chisholm converted in the lane to pull the Saints to 22-19. However, Parkside hit a late triple for a 25-19 lead at halftime.

Early in the second half, the Saints got back to within four points after a
Colin Schuler layup. A Vass drive and hoop make it 32-28 but the Rangers edged back out to a double-digit lead. Schuler sank a trey, and Vass scored in the lane to pull the Saints to within 38-33. Parkside built back a 51-41 cushion but the Saints made another charge. Williams and Schuler hit consecutive layups, and Smith drained a 3-pointer in transition to trim the gap to 51-48 with six minutes to play.
Ari Jackson hit a fallaway 3-pointer as Maryville closed to within 53-51 at the 3:38 mark. However, the Saints never were able to pull even as their bid to open the season with three straight wins fell short.
