TAMPA, Fla. – Maryville University baseball dropped the season opener 10-2 to fifth-ranked Tampa University on Friday evening.

After working around a leadoff single from
Jack Zebig, Tampa went on to score four runs with two outs in the bottom of the first inning. The Saints turned a double play before a walk followed by a double and two home runs put the home team ahead 4-0.
Tampa added another in the bottom of the fourth, but the Saints struck for a pair in the top of the fifth.
Michael Long led off with a single and came around to score on a sacrifice fly from Zebig.
Michael Gould doubled in the next at bat to bring home
Matt Schuler who collected a single earlier in the inning.
Tampa was held quiet by reliever
Jamie Young over the next few frames but broke through with five in the bottom of the eighth to extend the lead to 10-2. Schuler singled again in the ninth, but the Spartans got a double play to end the game.
